Geography
More or less elliptic
in form, Terceira covers an area of 318.96 km², measuring 29 km long
and 17.5 km wide at its maximum points.
The island consists of a plateau from which the Serra do Cume
gently emerges to dominate the eastern part of the island. The central
area is marked by the large, low crater of the Caldeira de Guilherme
Moniz and the series of hills forming the Serra do Labaçal of which the
highest point is the Pico Alto (808 meters).
To the West is the mountainous system of the vast crater of the
Serra da Santa Barbara which at 1.021 meters is the highest point of
the island.
The island of Terceira is situated at a point 27º 12' west and 38º 40' north.

Algar do Carvão
Situated in the interior of the Island Terceira - Caldeira
Guillermo Moniz, corresponds to a volcanic chimney, not total filled
for washes. In the interior the walls and ceiling of the vault are
covered with stalactites of silica and in the soil stalagmites are
formed.
Biscoitos
Important wines zone, produces the famous Verdelho Wine of
Biscuits. It is suggested visit the wine museum and balneal zone, with
natural swimming pools, to detach the black of the volcanic formations
and the blue of sea.
Historical center of Angra do Heroísmo city
In 1983 Angra do Heroísmo, main urban center of Terceira, was
classified as World-wide Patrimony by UNESCO. Stroll for the historical
center is suggested.
